UK Youth Parliament

The UK Youth Parliament (UKYP) gives young people the opportunity to represent the views of their peers at a national level. Made up of hundreds of young people aged 11–18 from across the UK, UKYP campaigns on issues that matter to young people and works with decision-makers to create positive change.

As an elected member of the Young Essex Assembly (YEA), you can put yourself forward to become a Member of Youth Parliament (MYP). Each year, YEA members elect eight Essex MYPs from within the Assembly to represent the voices of young people across Essex at UK Youth Parliament events, campaigns and consultations.

Essex's MYPs work together to:

• Represent the views, experiences and priorities of young people in Essex.
• Take part in regional and national UKYP events.
• Campaign on issues that matter most to young people.
• Meet and work with decision-makers to influence change.
• Champion youth voice and participation.

As part of their role, MYPs can attend national conferences, training opportunities and UKYP sittings, including debates in the House of Commons, where young people discuss and vote on issues affecting young people across the UK.
