Hustings Days
Monday 26 October to Saturday 31 October 2026
Hustings Days are fun and interactive sessions where prospective candidates can:
- Find out more about the Young Essex Assembly
- Meet current YEA members
- Learn about the opportunities available through the YEA
- Meet the staff who support the Assembly
- Take part in activities and ask questions about the role
Applications Close
Saturday 31 October 2026
All completed applications must be submitted by this date.
Voting Period
Monday 30 November to Friday 18 December 2026
Young people across Essex will have the opportunity to vote for candidates standing in their district.
Declaration Event
Sunday 31 January 2027
The results of the election will be announced and successful candidates will be formally declared as Young Essex Assembly Members.
Start of Term of Office
Monday 1 February 2027
Successful candidates will begin their two-year term of office as members of the Young Essex Assembly.
Who Can Stand for Election?
To stand for election you must:
- Be aged between 11 and 19 years old, or up to 25 years old if you have additional needs.
- Live, work or study in the district you wish to represent.
- Be passionate about improving opportunities for young people.
- Be willing to represent the views of young people in your community.
- Commit to taking part in YEA meetings, projects and activities throughout your two-year term.
What Does Being a YEA Member Involve?
As a Young Essex Assembly Member, you will:
- Represent the views of young people in your district.
- Work with decision-makers and organisations to influence positive change.
- Take part in campaigns, consultations and projects.
- Attend monthly county-wide YEA sittings and local meetings.
- Develop leadership, communication and teamwork skills.
- Meet new people and make a real difference in your community.
