What is RAWR? 

RAWR is the Young Essex Assembly's book review writing competition. The competition is to read a book or listen to an audiobook and write a book review about it. 

What form can the review take? 

  • A Traditionally written review 
  • A Rap / Song 
  • A Tiktok / Vlog 
  • A blog entry focused on the book and how it made you feel 

All videos and written entries will be judged on how well they are written, how well they depict the book in question, and also on creativity. 

If you cannot film your entry at home, we will have an Essex libraries bus in Colchester Castle park on 28th June 2023 4pm - 7pm! Come and visit us to find out more.

There will be three winners who each will receive a brand new kindle!

How and when to Enter 

Please email your entry to YEA@essex.gov.uk or give it to your local youth worker - find out where your local youth centre is on the main page! You can alternatively give your entry into your local library and ask them to email it to us. The Competition starts officially on the 1st June and we will start collecting entries then and the last entries must be in by July 1st.

The YEA is planning a free Cultural Event Day on Saturday 1st July from 10am to 3pm at Galleywood Youth Centre. We aim for this day to be full of fun, as we share the great origins of different and diverse cultures from across the world. You will be enthralled by a range of activities such as fun facts, breath-taking dances, trending music and brain testing quizzes. You are invited to attend this event and please can you share this event with any young people you know too. Let them know! We want to see you there.

So, whether you’d like to learn something new, or taste some delicious cultural food, we hope to see your face, vibing in the crowd! Saturday 1st of July 10-3pm at Galleywood Youth Centre CM2 8PT is the place to be!

The event is suitable for young people 7 to 19 and up to 25years with SEND. Anyone under the age of 11 years will need to be accompanied by an adult.
